How Funds Are Used
Funds raised by Peel Children’s Aid Foundation are used to support programs that provide essential help to children and youth, that are not already funded by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services through Peel Children’s Aid. Previously funded projects included a book series for children and teens focusing on foster children; a resource kit for teens living independently; and backpacks and school supplies. The Foundation currently raises funds for the following programs: - “The KidPower! Fund” – Programs to provide life enrichment opportunities for disadvantaged children and youth.
- Camp 4 Kids Program: Day and overnight camp opportunities for approximately 400 children every summer.
- The Wonder Fund: Emergency funding for necessities like beds and bed linens, lice treatment, etc. that prevent kids from coming into care, and recreational and skill-development opportunities for children and youth, such as music lessons, bikes, school trips, etc.
- Holiday Wishes Program: Provides toys, gift cards and food vouchers to needy children, teens living alone and families for the holidays.
- Sports 4 Kids Program: Funding for supervised sporting activities like soccer, baseball, swimming lessons, martial arts, fitness, etc.
- “The Futures Fund” – Programs providing bursaries for post-secondary education, recognition of scholastic achievement and opportunities for future success.
- Bursary Program – Scholarships to aid youth in attaining their dreams through post-secondary education.
- Achievement Program – To recognize students in grades 7 to 11 for scholastic achievement, and encourage them to stay in school.
- Skills for Success Program – To provide workshops in a variety of subjects such as job interview skills, money management, careers, healthy living, etiquette for the modern world, etc., to aid youth in developing the skills needed to move successfully into adulthood.
- Tools for Learning Program – Supplying backpacks, lined paper, notebooks, binders, protractor sets, calculators, crayons and markers, etc., for financially disadvantaged children and youth so they can fully participate in school.
- “The Health Fund” – Programs providing ongoing support for healthy growth, health maintenance and proactive care.
- Medical Clinic – To provide funding for ongoing capital costs of the clinic offering examinations, referrals and follow-up treatment within the legislated time period and offers specialized care for abused and neglected children and youth.
- Infant Wellness Emergency Supply Cupboard – To fund baby essentials such as formula, diapers, hygiene products and medical supplies for the specialized nursing team that provides parenting education and support to parents of infants up to 18 months of age in the community, preventing the infants from having to come into care.
- Healthy Living – To educate parents and teens about the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, including training in creating a healthy diet and how to eat well on a small budget, how to involve children in exercise, etc.
